Hello fellow scrappers! It's Heather McMahon back with you today to welcome
you to another photo tutorial in our Design Team 'Moment To Shine' series.
Today we have a layout by, well me actually! I'm from Australia & I
used the stunning mood board from our current challenge here as my
inspiration. Today I'm sharing a photo tutorial showing how I made my project.
I was inspired firstly by those pink steps in the mood board. They immediately
reminded me of the gorgeous steps everywhere on the Greek Islands &, as I have
a gazillion photos of these places, I thought it was a great opportunity to scrap
them. I was also inspired by the amazing blues in the flower pic.

Here's a little about me:
"Hi there! I'm Heather McMahon & I'm thrilled to be a part of the Scrap Around
The World team. I live in Australia with my husband & 2 teenage kids.
I was introduced to scrapbooking 15 years ago & was immediately addicted.
My children were young when I started, so finding scrapping time was hard,
but now I have much more time to explore & create.

My children were young when I started, so finding scrapping time was hard,
but now I have much more time to explore & create.
I love to experiment with different styles but I lean towards more arty, funky designs.
There is a lot of variety in what I create but colour always plays a key role in my work. I
like my layouts to reflect the mood or feeling of the photo & I use colour to reinforce this.

1. Stamp a few background stamps onto a good quality cardstock, using archival ink so it
won't run when water is applied. Draw a few rough circles with pencil.

2. Paint inside the circles with acrylic glaze. Add a little water to the glaze
first for a more transparent look & easier application.

3. Spray a very light spray of water over the area you want to colour. Take pinches of sparkling pigment powder
(use gloves if you don't want to stain your hands) & sprinkle it across the
wet areas. Spray another very light spray on top of the powder. The areas coloured with
the glaze will slightly repel the water & powder, letting the circles peep through.

4. Dry thoroughly. Using embossing ink, stamp a small flourish onto a few places
on the background & apply silver embossing powder. Heat to set.

5. If your background has buckled, place it under a heavy weight to flatten it while you
work on the embellishments. Paint the chipboard flourish with gesso & let dry.

6. Paint the chipboard alphas with gesso then paint or ink the top half
blue. Add blue embossing powder to the top half only & heat to set.

blue. Add blue embossing powder to the top half only & heat to set.
7. Drop silver & blue metallic threads across the page & glue down the photo, title
& chipboard flourish. These will anchor the threads in place.
8. Add a variety of blue & silver bling, write in your journalling & ink the edges
of the page with blue ink. Your layout is done!
The more water you use, the more the sparkling pigment powders will blend together. Try varying
the amount of water you use on different areas for interesting effects.
Small details like bling & embossing powders can make such a big impact.
On a busy or eye-catching background, you sometimes don't need too many
embellishments. A gorgeous flourish & title are all that's needed on this layout.
