May 2014 Challenge 13 - A Celebratory Mood Board by Helen Tilbury - Happy Birthday to SATW! EPIC ANNIVERSARY EVENT COMPETITION!!

Hello & Welcome to another awesome month at Scrap Around The World!
Can you believe we have already hosted ONE YEAR's worth of challenges?
Definitely something worth CELEBRATING don'tchya think!

It's been quite a ride & not without it's hitches & glitches but we are doing our best
to hang in here for the long haul!  Inspiring YOU is such a fulfilling & rewarding task
& we have seen our entries rise not only in numbers but also in standard, which
means success in our eyes!  Our vision is not only to provide fun challenges but
also great incentives for you to improve your work by learning new skills & offering
so many exposure opportunities.

Without our community - ie YOU & your friends!  we wouldn't be doing what we do
here & having so much darn fun doing it - so THANK YOU!  Please keep supporting
& encouraging us & LET US KNOW if we make a mistake or do something wrong
in your opinion - as long as you are nice about it we don't mind!  We are learning &
growing as we go along & every month offers up something new for us too!!

-------------------------------------------

OVER $ 1 000 WORTH OF PRIZES TO BE WON THIS MONTH
BUT YOU NEED TO FOLLOW OUR SPECIAL

EPIC COMPETITION RULES

SO PLEASE READ CAREFULLY!

This month things are going to work a little differently BECAUSE it's competition time!
Yes I know that EVERY month we host a challenge here but this month it is EPIC!!

We are looking for our 2014 EPIC WINNERS - ie the TOP TEN PLAYERS for our
first year (May 2013 - April 2014) SO we will be choosing 10 WINNERS as per usual
(plus ONE RANDOM WINNER as always!) BUT here is the difference...

VERY IMPORTANT!  PLEASE READ BEFORE ENTERING!!

1.  We have TEN HUGE prizes (each valued at approximately $100 US!!)
for TEN WINNERS!  We will not be grading your entries from 1 to 10 this month.
Rather, we have invited TEN GUEST JUDGES to each select one winner,
based on the entry that they find the most suitable, relevant & appealing.
They will be sending their selected winner's name to me, along with a few
sentences explaining what they really loved about their winning entry.

2.  9 out of 10 of our prizes will be awarded to PAST WOFFERS!
Woffers are Winners, Features & Finalists, in other words our
TOP TEN ENTRIES  from the last 12 months!!  This is so that
we are able to determine who are true TOP 10 PLAYERS
for our First Year are!! So this is like THE FINALS!!

3.  ONE prize will be open to a NEW winner - someone NEVER
featured on our Wall of Fame {WOF} in the past - so there is still
incentive for EVERYONE to enter as one prize is open to anyone
who wins on MERIT & one prize (of $50 value) is open to one
random winner.{as usual but this month even the random
prize is a big one - woot!!}

****************************************
4.  For your entry to be eligible you need to write
WOF or NEW after your name WHEN YOU LINK UP - ie:-

*****************************************

YOU NEED TO ADD "WOF" OR "NEW" AFTER
YOUR NAME ON THE LINKY THIS MONTH!!

(if you've been featured at SATW before & forget
to write WOF, or don't state WOF or NEW you will
automatically be put into the NEW category, for
which there is only one prize, as opposed to nine!

Instead of writing - Julia Roberts - USA
you should now write - Julia Roberts - USA - WOF
(if you have been a winner, feature or finalist before
& have therefore featured in our Wall of Fame in the past)

OR - if you have never been a winner, feature or finalist before,
you need to write - Julia Roberts - USA - NEW {for example!}

Got it?!  If you forget & cannot delete your entry then please
load it again.  Only entries with WOF or NEW after the name
& country will be eligible for any prizes - THANK YOU!!

I am your challenge host this month!  Mood board compiled by moi :)

ladies!  {& gents are welcome too!!} There are just 3 MORE DAYS TO GO!!

If you have been snoozing this month - don't worry!  You still have time to wake up
& join the party!!  Our current mood board is above & you can find both our fabulous
reveals a few posts back, for LOADS of inspiration!!  See HERE & HERE!!!

Today we introduce to you Karolina Stopyra - an extremely talented artist & crafter
from Poland.  She really needs no introduction as her brand - 3rd Eye Crafts
is testament to her amazing creative talents!  Here she is!!

"Hello!   I'm Karolina Stopyra {aka Drycha} & I live in Warsaw, the capital of Poland.
I have always created – drawing, painting, taking photos, etc.
In spring 2008 I found scrapbooking & started to create albums & cards.
With time I jumped more & more into mixed media and I just LOVE it!.
I love to learn new techniques, experiment with new medias & bring it all together.
I love to create a lot of things such as layouts, cards, altered art, jewellery & art dolls.

I have been featured in scrapbook & crafting magazines & am the owner & designer

of my own Polish craft brand 3rd Eye Crafts.   We manufacture rubber stamps,

chipboard, shadowboxes, mounting blocks, stickers, stencils & flairs. You can find me,
my projects & mytutorials on my blog Drycha.blogspot.com & I welcome your visit!
You can subscribe to my You-Tube channel HERE.

This is what Drycha has to say about her project :-
"Riikka's inspirations is so-not-Drycha's-style but I gathered medias on my desk
& started creating! Playing with all these layers & medias was pure fun!
I also used white crackle paint & repeated the circle motif from the mood board.
The butterflies reminded me of the Lumiere paint in shade "Halo blue gold" which is
SO shimmery & opalescent - from blue through greens to gold - amazing effect!

Despite the use of many elements from Riikka's mood board - page stayed in my style :)
You can see whole creating process (excl. putting paper scraps on the background ;)
by watching my video. Hope you enjoy it!  Let me know what you think!!

Well I know what I think!  I think this is one of the most beautiful creations I have seen
using this board!!  And what does it show you?!?  That NO MATTER WHAT YOUR STYLE
you can be inspired by the Scrap Around The World boards & create with us every month!!
 Thanks so much Drycha!!!

If you enjoy our tutorials here at SATW let us know!  Leave some love for our wonderful contributors!!

Drycha is one hard-working creative force that is actively contributing to the worldwide
crafting community at large each & every day with her creative skills!!

April Guest Educator - Debbie Burns of USA!

Hello again everyone!  How are you all today?  Things are going SO WELL this month at Scrap Around The World - we are sitting on EIGHTY ENTRIES so far this month!  Woohoo & thank you!!  It makes me VERY HAPPY when all we do here is appreciated & enjoyed, & it spurs me on to keep providing inspiration for the worldwide scrappy community so thanks peeps!!

This month we welcome Debbie Burns as our Guest Educator!  Debbie has played along with us a few times & creates very pretty canvas works, one of which we are showcasing here today.  Last month Debbie was placed 2nd on our Wall of Fame & the month prior (February) her lovely work caught our eye & she was selected as a future educator.

So here she is!

Hi everyone, Debbie here with you today!
What a thrill to be invited as Guest Educator for Scrap Around The World
& to share with you my techniques in creating a canvas!

I live in a small rural town in the state of Maryland, about an hour's drive from Washington, DC. I've been scrapbooking for 14 years & love the creative side of me that translates into my projects. Last year I tried my hand at creating using a canvas along with mixed media & fell in love with the craft. There are no boundaries & the sky is the limit! You can see more of my work on my blog http://lovelifeslittlepleasures.blogspot.com/.  I would love a visit!!

1.  I started with a 9 x 12 canvas &randomly added some
torn stripes of paper from Bo Bunny's Country Garden.

2.  I then covered the canvas with some gesso & after it
dried I colored some of the canvas with crayon pastels,
gelatos & randomly added some drywall tape then
stenciled using modeling paste &various masks.

3. I wasn't thrilled with the crayon pastels, thinking the
colors looked washed out, so I added some more gesso
followed by some water colors & pastel inks.  Lastly
I randomly stamped using various stamps.

 4.  Next I tore some strips of washi tape, placed them
on the canvas then covered them lightly with gesso.

5.  I then added some more stenciling using the Tim Holtz
Doily mask together with some modelling paste then
inked over it once dry, using some cream ink.

6.  Lastly I added my flowers & embellishments & was done!

Here are a few close ups.
Why not give a canvas a try?
As you can see it's really not that hard when broken down
into simple steps is it?  SATW allows canvases 8 x 8 inches or larger.

A lot of older paper collections can be transformed
using a light layer of gesso & some misting or inking.

Supplies used :-

9x12 canvas
Stencils/Masks: Tim Holtz, The Crafters Workshop
Gesso, Modelling Paste
Prima Chalk Fluid Ink
Drywall Tape
Watercolor Paints
Pastel Crayons
Washi Tape
Stamps - My Mind's Eye, Kaisercraft, Prima
Faber Castell Gelatos
Bo Bunny Country Garden papers & embellishments
Prima Flowers

Ooooh just look at all those yummy supplies!!
Makes my heart do a little flippity flip!
You can keep the shoes - just give me the stamps!!!

THANK YOU DEBBIE for creating this beautiful piece especially
for us this month!  Please remember to leave some encouragement
for Debbie as she ventures (very successfully) into this new realm
of mixed media canvas making!!

Just  ONE WEEK LEFT to enter our challenge this month so
come along anyone that's been too busy.  Just get cracking
& hopefully with all the inspiration you find here the ideas will
flow!  See you all soon with a VIDEO TUTORIAL up next!!
