January 2014 Challenge 9 - A Soft & Beachy Mood Board by Kim Ewins

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!
Welcome back to Scrap Around The World Challenge NINE
hosted by Design Team member Kim Ewins from Australia!

OUR PLANS!

We have all sorts of great things planned for you here this year & a few changes too, starting with
splitting our monthly reveal in TWO, with 8 design team layouts being revealed on the 1st of the month,
followed by another 8 on the 16th, as well as our usual Guest Design Team post on the 12th of each month
& our Guest Designer post on the 20th - so all in all we'll be providing you with approximately TWENTY FIVE
projects to inspire you each month! Then of course there is also our educational side where we provide
TWO tutorials a month{either photographic step-by-step or videos} so we have plenty to offer you in 2014!!

OUR THANKS!

As it's the beginning of a new year I'd like to acknowledge some people before we begin.

Firstly THANK YOU to YOU for participating.
Without players a challenge blog cannot function.

Then of course, to my Design Team - who produce a beautiful project
each month, without fail, as well as posting, sharing, commenting & judging.

This journey has not been easy.  It has certainly had it's fun & satisfying moments
but starting & running a challenge blog is difficult & I appreciate all the assistance
& support I get, in spite of the inevitable setbacks I have had to overcome.

Finally we have a SATW admin team who help me hold everything together!

When I first began I had little idea what I was getting myself into & naively thought
I could to everything myself & that everything would run like clockwork.  Well of
course that hasn't been the case & there have been many disappointments
but we are looking foward to a FANTASTIC 2014 & now have some great
systems in place :)  Let me introduce the official 2014 admin team!

Kim Ewins recently joined us as our Guest Co-ordinator, liaising with our
Guest Designers & Guest Teams & adding all their information to their
posts for me to complete.  Kim is my "right-hand man" lady!!

Di Garling began administering our Facebook Page  a couple of months ago,
with GREAT success &  has more than doubled our following there through
her tireless efforts.  She is also in charge of promoting our challenges at
Paper People, All our Challenges are Here & Design Team Calls & will be
taking over the Wall of Fame from May 2014 when we move into our 2nd term.

Leonie Neal-Dawson has been with SATW since our inception & has recently
taken over as our Education Co-ordinator, assisting me in liaising with our
tutorialists & tutorial posts.  Leonie is the most down-to-earth, reliable &
dependable person I know & I am so grateful to have her help in 2014.

Together we form the Scrap Around The World HEAD HONCHOS
& with the help of these 3 awesome admin assistants I can now look
forward to 2014 & plan our awesome FIRST YEAR ANNIVERSARY
EVENT in May!  All I can tell you is IT WILL BE AWESOME!!

-----------------------------------------------

MORE THANKS!!

Alexandra Polyzou  compiles our WALL of FAME monthly & posts it.  It takes time to
get it right, especially with our foreign players with names that are not easily spelt :)

Gayle Price keeps our Winners & Features list up to date in our sidebar
 as well as on our Winners & Features page {awesome for easy reference}
as well as going above & beyond the call of duty in the commenting department!

Eila Sandberg is the most awesome & steadfast commenter I have ever known
AND provides sponsorship assistance whenever we are in a jam, as well as a
willing ear & solid advice when needed!.

Agnieszka Bellaidea helps out whenever & where-ever she can & has
been responsible for plenty of our fantastic sponsorship contracts.

Riikka Kovasin is a relative newcomer at SATW but deserves a special mention
for her willingness to go the extra mile whenever she can,  including sponsorship
 & amazing video tutorials.

Since SATW began 8 months ago people have come & gone & it has been an almost
non-stop job for me to build up a strong design team of not only fantastic designers
but also reliable people to assist me in running this site, that needs daily attention,
thorough forethought & consistent effort & team work.

Thank you to everyone who has helped me to to this end.

-------------------------------------------------

EVEN MORE THANKS!!!

Last but not least - our sponsors.  Garnering sponsorship was the one thing
that always put me off starting a challenge blog.  I absolutely hated the thought
 of "asking" anyone for anything.  {I can now report that I have become a great beggar!}

So many AMAZING companies have been only too willing to help us out in return
for some great advertising!  As you can see from the long list in our sidebar,
we have had many companies, big & small, affiliating themselves with SATW.

Our sponsorship schedule for 2014 is ALMOST FULL so anyone considering
sponsoring us needs to please get in touch with me URGENTLY via e mail at
scrapaddict {at} telkomsa {dot} net.

------------------------------------------------------------

We have some amazing prizes YET AGAIN this month & we hope
that many of you will be able to participate in our January challenge!

As you will see we now offer a mood board ONLY, without a sketch, in order
to assist you in combining our challenge with a sketch challenge if you want :)

Feel free to interpret the mood board in any way you like,
using one image, several of them, all of them or even just
one aspect of an image, using ANY COLOURS!

To be eligible for judging:-

1.   You need to follow our 10 Golden Rules found HERE, which include :-

1)  Sharing the mood board image.

2)  Mentioning Scrap Around The World {in full - not just
SATW} & LINKING BACK to the current challenge.

3)  Mentioning HOW you were inspired by our mood board.

4)  Linking back to your SATW blog post NOT YOUR ENTIRE BLOG.

If receiving comments from some of our Design Team members is important
to you please ensure that you have WORD VERIFICATION TURNED OFF.

Guest Educator Corinne de France {aka March} with a Tag Tutorial!

Hi everyone!  Christmas is almost upon us so I am taking the opportunity
to say MERRY CHRISTMAS to all who celebrate the birth of Jesus!!

If you are here today you are EXTRA AWESOME because it is the day before Christmas!
You should be baking gingerbread, etc, etc!!  Because we don't want to keep you long
away from your loved ones we are sharing a TAG TUTORIAL today.  Tags are
quick & easy to make yet capable of giving you a QUICK CREATIVE FIX!!

*Remember we are allowing TAGS this month to help you create
 FASTER
over this busy festive period!  This month only though!!*

Today we welcome a very special lady - Corinne de France aka March,
to share a tag with you, made especially for us at Scrap Around The World.

Corinne has participated in EVERY SINGLE CHALLENGE we have ever held
 - all EIGHT so far - so for that she is definitely EXTRA AWESOME!!
Here she is!...

I am very thrilled & rather nervous, but also very proud, that
Scrap Around the World has noticed my work & asked me
to present a tutorial.  I am so excited for this opportunity!

I am the mum of an adorable young girl who is the source of my
inspiration, & I have a great husband who understands & accepts
my passion.  I love all styles but I discovered mixed media 2 years
ago & now I incorporate it into all my layouts & art journal pages.

I often also work with images or postcards brought back from my
travels with my husband. I also love street art.  I live with my family
in Lyon  which is a city in east-central France, situated between
Paris & Marseille by the Mediterranean.

I've just joined the team l'antre Scrap, who noticed my work & asked
me to join them.  My blog is in French, but as art is universal I hope
you will like what you see & become a follower if you do!

You can find it here...

1.  Distress the edges of your tag.

2.  Separate the layers of your paper napkin.

3.  Tear off the parts you want to use & position them on your tag.

4.  Paste down using gel medium or liquid glue & heat gently to dry.

5.  Apply gesso through a stencil, heating gently to dry off.
{This is a SPRAY GESSO - how awesome is that?!?}

6.  Using another stencil, apply thick gel medium then heat gently to dry off.

7.  Spray a concentrated amount of ink onto one particular area of your tag.

8.  Apply a light layer of gesso to a stamp, using a
brush & stamp with it then heat gently to dry off.

9.  Use your fingertips to gently wipe acrylic paint onto the area of
gel medium that is raised & dried, in order to highlight the design.

10.  Thoroughly dry off your tag & enjoy admiring
your design!  Your tag is now complete!!

THANK YOU Corinne for a TOTALLY AWESOME tutorial!
So creative & artistic I am dying to try it out myself!

If you LOVED this tutorial as much as I did please
let Corinne know by leaving a comment, I'm sure
she would really appreciate hearing from you!

December Guest Designer Tetiana Komarova {aka Taniko} of the Ukraine!

Our Current Winners and Features!

Please view our current challenge HERE

Today we welcome back the winner of our November 2013 Challenge,
Tetiana Komarova of the Ukraine as our December Guest Designer!

Hello! My name is Tetiana Komarova, however in the scrap world
I use my nickname Taniko. I’m 25 years old & I live in Kiev, Ukraine.

Currently there are 3 important matters in my life -

 1)  my family {all my time is devoted to upbringing
 of my son Timofey - & my husband too sometimes!}

 2) my postgraduate studies – for already 2 years all my mental
efforts have been thrown into the writing of my dissertation.

 3) Scrapbooking! In 2010 I plunged into this exciting world
 & still depend on it!!

I like to make works in different styles but my favourite is clean & simple
for cards & mixed-media for the rest!   I adore mixed-media techniques
because they give me the freedom to express myself & seem to be
the best tool for the realization of creative potential. I like to make
lots of layers, play with texture paste & paint, & use bright colors
& fabrics on my pages.  You can find my blog *HERE*

Taniko used our current mood board for inspiration
to create one of her stunning trademark pages.

I love the white base & ever-so-subtle masking work on her background.

The eclecticism of her pages makes Taniko's work unique!

Layers & textures are a sure-fire way to add instant appeal...

I adore the white mist spatters on the photo!
Thanks so much for joining us Taniko!!

Please take a minute to leave some comment
love for Taniko today & don't forget to get
your entry uploaded soon - time is running out...

DECEMBER RULES ALLOW tags, ATCs, single
art journal pages & NO restriction on canvas size!
BECAUSE this is an especially busy month SO
we know that time is precious but you still want
to GET YOUR CRAFT ON!!
